Sylvia Lynd

Sylvia Lynd (1888-1952) was born Sylvia Dewhurst, and later married the journalist Robert Lynd. She wrote novels and poetry and articles (although she had studied both at the Slade and at RADA). Her poetry is modest, essentially Georgian – in 1931, when she started judging WR competitions, a collection called The Yellow Placard was about to come out. You can read and download a short a collection here – part of a series of short volumes edited by Humbert Wolfe, a series that had also included Wolfe himself and also Gerald Gould. A good example of her poetry is this one:

Lynd - Nightfall
