John Collier

John Henry Noyes Collier was born in 1901 and died in 1980. When he judged competition 140, he was in his early thirties, and had published some poetry and a novel (his second novel came out the following year). He made his living through writing, including work as a screen writer (he is an uncredited scriptwriter on The African Queen, amongst others). He also wrote several short stories.
