(Lionel) Benedict Nicholson (1914-1978), generally known as Ben, was only 17 when he became a WR judge – he’s the elder son of Vita Sackville -West and Harold Nicholson. He went on to an impressive career as an art historian, and, although homosexual, he was advised by Vita to marry. The marriage was not a success. One imagines that Vita foisted him on Gerald Barry, but he does make a fair fist of the work.
